Kayak Launching Dock Products Designed and Developed in Oriental, North Carolina
In 2006, Alton Privette an avid kayaker, was selling kayaks in his Outfitters store in Oriental NC.
Several customers were discouraged by the difficulty of getting in and out of the boat including himself and his wife.
So, he started experimenting with options and came up with an idea that resulted in the first kayak launcher, the Yak-A-Launcher.
He decided that the best dock unit should be portable so it could be used at a public dock or even from the bank of any body of water like a lake or river. Also, in the off season it could be safely stored.
The Yak-A-Launcher went through several iterations until the unit finally developed into what is available now and Get Kayaktive LLC was born.
Through the years, thousands of customers have enjoyed the convenience of kayaking enjoyment and fun without the stress and frustration of tipping over and getting wet (well, not soaked.:).
The Yak-A-Launcher, when purchased, comes complete with everything you’ll need:
Instruction manual, 2 dock lines, a bowline to secure your kayak to the launcher, a pair of cleats to attack the dock lines to, along with four deck screws and a T-25 bit to use with a cordless screwdriver. The only tool required is the screwdriver.
The total weight of the Yak-A-Launcher is 56 pounds. The inside dimension is 36” and can accommodate most paddleboards and canoes.
In addition to this innovation, Alton also came up with a device we call Roll-Aid.
This unit is a roller tool that you attach to a dock to launch your kayak into the water without scraping your beautiful boat!
It’s designed to be stationary but can be removed easily.
